Victoria Beckham's Fashion Label set to Earn over $96 Million

Victoria Beckham's eponymous label has generated sales in excess of $24 million during the first quarter of 2011. It is further believed that if this trend continues, the designer could very well generate more than $96 million from her fashion line.

The ex-Spice Girl debuted her label in 2008 and since then it has expanded to separates and handbags.

Vogue UK reported that this season saw Beckham present "Victoria by Victoria Beckham" - a lower-priced collection, containing witty animal-printed dresses and color pop shifts that the new mother has been sporting herself.

Although an official statement has not been released by the brand, the Daily Mail reported that sales increased by 70 per cent, as compared to the same period last year.

"Victoria never dreamed her clothing range would be successful. She is close to eclipsing David!" a source told the Daily Mail.

Currently, her footballer husband, David Beckham, is on a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy worth 128 million pounds. Besides this, he is also involved in a series of sponsorship deals. Together, the celebrity couple has an estimated 165 million pounds fortune between them.

Toronto Fashion Week trends: technicolour (and some slightly subdued) dream prints

Toronto Fashion Week is over, which means it is time to take all of the “CanadaCool” trends we learned about last week and implement them in real life.

Our final look at the trends from last week is a series of prints, from Fair Isle scarves to African textiles to a metallic fringe jacket with zebra stripes. We always say that if you’re going to dress like an animal, it should be the most haute animal—no stylish zebra would ever be caught dead without a little sprinkling of bling. But the zebra isn’t the only animal kingdom A-lister, since the world is full of glamorous animals, including the sporty lion, who never leaves home without his fur vest and contrasting waistcoat (a lion never knows when he’ll have to look his best for an unscheduled networking opportunity). We just love that Canada’s coolest kids were showing some colour this fashion week, and so brazenly, too—without it, we’d all just have dark and cold clothing to match how bummed out everyone felt for having to wait in line for 40 minutes for an already-late show.

Karl Lagerfeld to launch two new lines next year

German multitasker Karl Lagerfeld will release two new ranges in January designed to relaunch his namesake brand.

Set to launch during haute couture week in Paris, a 100-piece collection simply named Karl will become available on designer shopping site Net-à-Porter.com.

But as opposed to much of the e-store's usual offerings, the range will retail at affordable prices, ranging from €60 to €300.

Besides designing for Chanel, the designer recently demonstrated his "love for the masses," collaborating with budget retailers including Macy's, while putting his own label on hold for a year.

"A hybrid of Thirties, Forties and Fifties glamour with a feminine, easy, casual finish," said Jeanie Syfu about the pretty and gorgeously undone 'do seen at Tracy Reese. So youthful and breezy, this style can be achieved by simply rolling the hair up and around the face. You should follow the same steps in order to get the retro and sophisticated updo spotted at Preen, yet this time make sure your hair doesn't look messy.
A very sculptural approach on the spring 2012 updo trends was seen at Fendi and Jil Sander where hair was swept away from the face, teased and bouffant, with a '50s-'60s mid-century shape. To create this voluminous 'do you have to backcomb your hair, slick it down the sides and pin it under in a faux bob.

At the Christian Dior fashion show, updos looked simply elegant, perfectly reflecting the modern, fresh Dior woman. Start by making a side parting, then roll and pin hair into place, leaving the result rather unfinished. Rolls were also showcased at Jean Paul Gaultier, but this time they were oversized and vintage-inspired. The 1940's rolls were amazingly complemented by vampy red lips and a fine line of black on the lids.


The classic French twist represented a fruitful source of inspiration for spring 2012. Sicilian-inspired at Dolce & Gabbana, dramatic and glam at Badgley Mischka, slicked-back at Narciso Rodriguez, and almost perfect at Rochas, this updo gets new twists, looking bold and otherworldly. To create this refined 'do, twist hair centered vertically on the back of the head and keep tucking until obtaining a glam look.

"Never too glamorous, never too androgynous, with a hint of rock ’n’ roll, Armani walks that thin line between everything," said hairstylist Franco Gobbi speaking about those bewitching twists spotted at Giorgio Armani. To get this effortless style you just have to twist sections of hair into different directions. Another 'do with a rock vibe was the polished, glossy one at Gucci.

At the Thakoon show, all eyes were on those eye-catching hairstyles. The look was bold and vividly-colored with hair pulled back and tucked into a messy braided chignon. A more elegant, feminine version of the braided chignon was seen at Moschino with braided extensions wrapped over the head.

Fashion Face-Off with Ashtiani & Caitlin Power

During this year's Toronto Fashion Incubator New Lables competition, it was really a choice between local designer Golnaz Ashtiani and Calgary-bred leather wonder woman Caitlin Power. Both collections, so strong and so different, were in line to claim either first or second place.

Ashtiani won that round, while my money (and interest) was riding on Power. I've since written about the prairie girl a few times, and I've come to admire her craftsmanship and vision, secretly making it up to myself that I'd felt she'd been robbed of the proper win. So when the two went in on a show deal together, with a history as top contenders in a national fashion competition, it was probably the most successful pairing of designer shows (both as one event, and two separate collections) since The ShOws last week. Its a smart move, and cost effective, allowing both to showcase their efforts and attracting audiences with a two-for-one deal. And neither lady disappointed. But in true fashion form, you be the judge of that based on the evidence of this fashion face-off.

Founded: 2010
The story: Power designs in structures. Using mostly leather, she crafts interesting shapes that flatter without looking funny. She's new to the city, having moved here just last month to fully pursue her dream of being a legit designer. She's going places, with a range of pieces that serve as a testament to her craft and skill, with and without leather. Her spring/summer 2012 is based on what she calls "Primal Futurism," with hints of Blade Runner, Star Trek, and Flash Gordon. It's an interesting idea, and works for a very specific girl.
The best: A boxy white leather dress
The better: A beige wool/silk cut-out dress with leather front panel
The verdict: Strong and streamlined. As usual, Power knows her strength and works with it, not against it

The story: Ashitani studied in the U.K. and interned for fashion houses after graduation before returning home to launch her label, starting with a fall/winter collection produced in April. For spring/summer 2012, the Toronto native was inspired by the '60s, drawing inspiration for movies like Roman Holiday. Her line is feminine, and subtle in its statement, instead focusing on elegant dressing while remaining timeless, not trendy. Her precise craftsmanship and delicate materials make the line look far beyond its years.
The best: A violet jumpsuit in silk charmeuse
The better: A pistachio one shoulder cape dress in silk
The verdict: While it's likely I'll always be a Power fan, Ms. Ashitani has changed my mind indefinitely as the one most deserving of the TFI New Labels crown
